Not only does this design require no redstone circuitry, (redstone dust, repeaters), it also can be used while completely sumberged in water. Most common would be in a kelp farm or a submerged amethyst shard farm.
Using the observer as the redstone trigger, it powers the block behind it as well as the note block. When the note block activates it updates the piston making it activate. *(the note block is the only block I have found that will do this)

Contain the product with some walls so there is no loss.
There is some nice coral in this one which means there must be water behind those walls. This is the case.
